Homework

Homework is given
– To promote positive home/school communication.
– To maximise the benefit of homework to the child’s learning.
• It is our vision that all children will develop at their own rate and ability. Homework enables each child to work independently and take responsibility for their assignments.
Homework is given from Infants to 6th Class.

All children from 1st Class – 6th Class have a homework diary which should be signed by parents every night. In setting homework and in reviewing homework, class teachers seek to balance the need for children to work independently at home with the need for children to have down-time and to play. Each class has a maximum homework time as a guideline for parents. If parents feel that children are consistently struggling to get the homework done in the time it’s important that the teacher gets that feedback. Therefore, it is very important that the length of time taken is accurately recorded and is written into the diary also.

Teachers can give homework such as Project Work/ Art/ P.E/ Drama/ Computer work/ Music/ Language Games etc. from time to time.

No class is limited to these guidelines. The class teacher may choose to increase or decrease the amount of homework depending on the needs of the children at any given time. The times below are a rough guideline to what the children in each class should spend doing their homework. A child may take several minutes less or more than the specified times.
