History

Gaelscoil na Camóige was founded in 1993. There were many parents who could not find a place for their children in the gaelscoileanna (All-Irish Schools) in the locality. So with help from Muintir Chrónáin (landlord of the site of the school) they founded Gaelscoil na Camóige. That year the school started with one teacher and 23 children under temporary recognition from the Department of Education. Gaelscoil na Camóige was founded as an all-Irish, catholic, primary school in which the children learn all their subjects (with the exception of English) through the medium of Irish. The school is under the patronage of the Arch Bishop of Dublin. In 1997 Ultan Mac Mathúna was appointed Principal. In February 1998 the school was awarded permanent recognition by the department of Education. Year after year our school grew in number of pupils and staff. Caoimhe de Búrca has been Principal since September 2007. To date we have thirteen full time teachers (Caoimhe de Búrca, Aoife Ní Raghallaigh, Eimear Billings, Donncha Ó Corcoráin, Sharon Ní Dhonnabháin, Sandra Ní Aoláin, Oisín Uíbh Eachach, Sinéad Nic Aonghusa, Olivia Ní Fhloinn, Clíodhna Esslemont, Lorna Ní Fhagáin, Sinéad Ní Dhurcáin agus Laura Ní Shúilleabháin) consisting of an administrative principal, 8 class teachers, one resource teacher, a Learning Support Teacher and two Special Needs Assistants.
