History

Gaelscoil na Camóige was founded in 1993. There were many parents who could not find a place for their children in the gaelscoileanna (All-Irish Schools) in the locality. So with help from Muintir Chrónáin (landlord of the site of the school) they founded Gaelscoil na Camóige. That year the school started with one teacher and 23 children under temporary recognition from the Department of Education. Gaelscoil na Camóige was founded as an all-Irish, catholic, primary school in which the children learn all their subjects (with the exception of English) through the medium of Irish. The school is under the patronage of the ArchBishop of Dublin. In February 1998 the school was awarded permanent recognition by the department of Education. Year after year our school grew in number of pupils and staff. Aoife Ní Raghallaigh is the school Principal. To date we have twelve full time teachers (Eimear Billings, Sandra Ní Aoláin, Sharon Breathnach, Sinéad Nic Aonghusa, Clíodhna Esslemont, Bríd Nic Dhomhnaill, Caitríona Ní Fhearáin, Laura Ní Shúilleabháin, Shauna Ní Chuinn, Niamh Nic Cionnaith, Sorcha Grisewood and Kellie Ní Uallacháin) consisting of an administrative principal, 9 class teachers, three Special Education Teachers and three Special Needs Assistants. We also have three excellent members on our ancillary staff. We have a part time Dancing Teacher and music teachers who teach Guitar, Fiddle, Tin Whistle, Banjo, Mandolin and Flute in the school.

This year we have 230 pupils on roll.
